The Dominican Republic (República
Dominicana) is a country located in the island of Hispaniola, in
the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean region.
It occupies the eastern five-eighths of the island, which it shares with the
nation of Haiti, making Hispaniola one of two Caribbean islands, along
with Saint Martin, that are shared by two countries. The Dominican
Republic is the second-largest Caribbean nation by area (after Cuba) at
48,445 square kilometers, and third by population with approximately 10 million
people, of which approximately three million live in the metropolitan area of
Santo Domingo, the capital city.
Caucedo
Caucedo seaport is located 25km from Santa Domingo. It is
the youngest and the most modern port in the Dominican Republic, operating in
both English and Spanish. The port has one container terminal, which is located
next to Las Americas International Airport. The terminal was built in 2003 by
the private sector. The port also serves as a transshipment hub.
Rio Haina
The port of Rio Haina is at the present time the main and
busiest port in the Dominican Republic. About 70% of all cargo is moved
through this port located only 6 miles away from Santo Domingo capital city.
There are port facilities on both banks of the river.

Santo Domingo is the capital of the Dominican Republic and
one of the Caribbean's oldest cities.
