UsChina Shipping News, Tropical Storm Harvey's Impact on Freight Movement

As Tropical Storm Harvey continues to produce unprecedented flooding conditions in Houston, Texas and the surrounding Gulf Coast region, we would like to provide you with the following update.

Additional rainfall accumulations of 10-20 inches along the Texas coast and into southwestern Louisiana are expected until Thursday, August 31. The profound volume of water, reaching up to 50 inches in some areas, has led to a catastrophic flooding that is severely impacting cargo movement in the region.

The Port of Houston has been closed since Friday, August 25 and will remain closed today (Tuesday, August 29). Houston area airports are also closed until further notice. Many railroads are reporting major service disruptions and suspended operations to/from Southeastern Texas.

As rising waters and flooding continue to restrict access and cause extensive damage to the infrastructure, diversion/skipping of vessels, cancellation of flights and delays to cargo operations and availability are to be expected until further notice. It is unknown at the moment when regular operations will return.
