ArabicVerified Gross Mass (VGM)
As you may be aware, effective July 1, 2016, as part of a new set of amendments to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention, shippers will be required to validate that all packed shipping containers have a verified gross mass (VGM) certificate before being loaded onto a ship for export.Shippers are fully responsible for providing the verified gross mass(VGM).
How to determine the VGM?
1. Weighing the whole container after it has been packed and sealed by shipper. Shipper may arrange the weight or have a third party weigh the packed container.
2. The shipper or, by arrangement of the shipper, may use a third party to weigh all packages and cargo items, including the mass of pallets, dunnage and other packing and securing materials to be packed in the container, and add the tare mass of the container to the sum of the single masses of the container contents.
